Day Tags

User-defined qualitative labels attached to entire trading days for environmental, mental-state, and process tracking.

More Details

What are Day Tags?

Day Tags are the day-level analogue of trade tags. Instead of labeling a single trade, a day tag describes the entire trading session the conditions, your state, the environment, the rules-adherence layer that applies to every trade taken that day.

Why Day Tags Exist (and Why Trade Tags Aren't Enough)

Some attributes don't belong to a single trade they describe the environment the trades happened in:

  • Market regime (trend_up, chop, high_vol)
  • News/event days (fomc, cpi, nfp, opex)
  • Mental/physical state (focused, tired, tilted)
  • Process adherence (followed_plan, broke_rules, overtraded)
  • "No-trade" days (still meaningful, still taggable)

Mixing these into trade tags pollutes trade-level analytics and makes it impossible to ask "how many days did I trade FOMC?" cleanly.

Same Mechanics as Trade Tags

Day tags share the full feature set:

  • No pre-registration type and save
  • Auto-suggest from previously used day tags
  • AND/OR/NOT/wildcard filter syntax (fomc,high_vol, regime_%, !tilted)
  • Independent filter pill in the global filter bar (separate from trade tag filter)

Trade Tag vs. Day Tag Decision

Question Use
Describes one specific trade's setup/exit? Trade tag
Applies identically to every trade in the session? Day tag
About your state for the whole day? Day tag
About a market/news event defining the day? Day tag
Strategy or pattern name? Trade tag
Did I follow rules / overtrade today? Day tag

Powerful Cross-Filtering

Because day tags and trade tags are separate axes, you can combine them:

  • Trades tagged S_MACD on days tagged regime_trend_up
  • All trades on days in the News day tag group
  • Days tagged followed_plan vs. broke_rules the simplest discipline report you can build

Where Day Tags Show Up

  • Day Explore primary input UI, full per-day qualitative review
  • Calendar/Daily view colored chips on each day cell
  • Day tags charts PnL, win-rate, expectancy aggregated by day tag
  • Day tag group summary (see related term)
  • Pivot Grid / Normal Grids as row/column dimensions
  • AI Query / AI Daily Summary queryable as a first-class dimension

Where to find it in TradesViz

Add/edit day tags primarily from Day Explore (open any day from calendar/daily view). Quick-edit also available from calendar day cell context menus. Manage existing day tags from Account Settings > Tag management (rename, remove). Day tags filter pill in the global filter bar (PRO tier). Charts under Trading performance analysis > Day tags. Note: deleting all trades on a day does NOT delete the day's tags day records persist independently.

Example

End-of-day routine: tag today with `regime_trend_up`, `vol_normal`, `focused`, `followed_plan`. After 20 days, the day tag group summary reveals: `tired` days = -68% of net PnL.
