Exit Insights

A TradesViz exit management dashboard that compares your actual exits against Best Exit, hold-to-close, and multi-day hold simulations, then ranks where your exits leak the most money.

What is Exit Insights?

Exit Insights is the synthesis layer for exit analysis in TradesViz. Instead of making you inspect Best Exit, EOD Exit, Multi-Timeframe Exit, running PnL, and MFE/MAE charts one by one, it puts the decision view on one page.

The Core Question

Most traders know the slogans: "let winners run" and "cut losers." The hard part is knowing which rule your own data supports. Exit Insights answers:

  • How much of the available move did you actually capture?
  • Would a simple hold-to-close or multi-day hold have beaten your real exit?
  • Which symbols, days, times, sides, or duration buckets created the biggest exit leaks?
  • Was the leak caused by giving back open profit, or by closing too early before the trade had time to run?

What Exit Insights Shows

Scorecard

Actual PnL, Best-Exit Potential, Capture Rate, hold-to-session-close comparison, and the best repeatable alternative in the current grouping.

Exit Matrices

Two heatmaps keep managed exits and initial-position hold scenarios separate. Managed exits compare Actual, Best Exit, and hold-to-close. Initial-position scenarios compare same-day, +1, +2, and +3 day holds.

Biggest Exit Leaks

A ranked table scans many dimensions at once and shows the segments where a different exit would have helped most. This is useful because it points directly to a testable subset of trades instead of forcing you to eyeball dozens of charts.

Round-Tripped vs Cut-Early

This is the key behavioral split. Round-tripped means you had the profit and gave it back before exiting. Cut-early means the trade continued after you exited. Those are different mistakes with different fixes.

Hold Reliability

The hold-longer view checks whether a bigger dollar outcome came from a broad improvement across many trades or from a few outliers.

Why It Matters for Trade Management

Exit Insights is useful because it moves exit review from "that trade could have been better" to "this specific exit rule should be tested." A low capture rate by itself is not enough. You need to know whether to tighten profit protection, let winners run longer, stop holding into a weak time window, or ignore a pattern because it is outlier-driven.

How to Use It

  1. Start with the scorecard and biggest leaks table.
  2. Raise the minimum-trades filter until tiny samples disappear.
  3. Check the round-tripped vs cut-early split.
  4. Compare the dollar opportunity with hold reliability.
  5. Click into the underlying trades and test one exit change at a time.

Availability

Exit Insights is part of the TradesViz exit analysis suite for Platinum users. It uses matched exit statistics, so very recent trades may not appear until the EOD and multi-timeframe calculations finish.

Where to find it in TradesViz

Open Exit Analysis > Exit Insights in the main dashboard. The tab sits next to Detailed Exit Charts and summarizes Best Exit, hold-to-close, multi-timeframe holds, capture rate, biggest leaks, hold reliability, and round-tripped vs cut-early behavior. More info: /blog/exit-insights/

Example

Your actual exits captured 48% of Best-Exit Potential, while the biggest leak shows Wednesday +2 day holds would have added 12,000 across 25 trades. Exit Insights then shows whether that opportunity was broad or outlier-driven.
