Position size & risk calculator

Start with a risk budget. Turn your entry, stop and trading costs into a quantity, rounded down to the units you can trade.

Define the trade and your risk budget

Native-currency value of a full 1.0 price move. Use units per lot when each unit earns 1 currency unit per point.

One minimum quoted price increment. This does not constrain average fill prices.

Use 1 for whole shares, or your broker's supported fractional increment.

Account currency

Keep the trade in its native currency and see an account-currency equivalent.

Native currency per share, coin, contract or selected lot, both sides combined.

Native currency. Do not repeat costs already counted per unit.

Calculations run in your browser. Symbol and FX lookups request public reference data only.

How position sizing works

Convert the account-currency risk budget to native currency. Subtract fixed costs, then divide by (entry-to-stop distance × multiplier + round-trip cost per unit). Round down to the allowed quantity increment.

Example: a USD 100 risk budget, long entry at 100, stop fill at 98 and USD 0.10 cost per share gives USD 2.10 risk per share. With whole shares, the result is 47 shares and USD 98.70 modeled risk.

A stop is an assumption, not a guaranteed execution price. This calculator does not select a risk percentage for you, check broker margin, estimate liquidation or model an options strategy's nonlinear payoff.
