Net profit / loss

- Gross P&L
- USD 100.00
- Total costs
- USD 2.00
(110 − 100) × 10 − 2 = 98
How to calculate trading profit and loss
Long: (exit price − entry price) × quantity × multiplier − total costs.
Short: (entry price − exit price) × quantity × multiplier − total costs.
The multiplier is 1 for shares and spot crypto units. For futures, use the contract's value per full price point. A contract with a 0.25 tick size and 0.50 tick value has a multiplier of 2. Check your exchange's contract specifications; micro and standard contracts can have different multipliers. CME explains contract P&L and tick values.
Worked example: a stock trade
Buying 10 shares at 100 and selling at 110 gives 100 gross profit. With 2 in total costs, net profit is 98, in the same currency. A short position with those entry and exit prices instead loses 102 after costs.
Why does P&L differ from my broker?
Check contract size, actual fill prices, the closed quantity, costs and currency. Enter costs once. An estimate based on intended prices may differ from actual fills; this tool is not a broker statement or a tax calculation.
