What is Hit Ratio?
Hit Ratio (also called Win Rate) is the percentage of your trades that end in profit. It's one of the most basic but important metrics for evaluating trading performance.
Formula
Hit Ratio = (Winning Trades / Total Trades) x 100%
What's a Good Hit Ratio?
It depends on your risk-reward ratio:
| Hit Ratio | Min R:R Needed | Strategy Type |
|---|---|---|
| 30-40% | 2:1 or higher | Trend following |
| 50% | 1:1 | Balanced |
| 60-70% | 0.5:1 acceptable | Scalping, mean reversion |
| 80%+ | Any | Rare, usually small gains |
The Hit Ratio Trap
Many traders obsess over win rate, but a 70% win rate with small wins and large losses = losing system. Always combine hit ratio with:
- Average win vs average loss
- Expectancy
- Profit factor
